Covadonga

Many people say, that Covadonga and Lagos de Covadonga are the two most famous places in Asturias. For what I can say, both of these places are absolutely gorgeous.

Covadonga is a parshie* in Picos de Europa with a breathtaking basílica. This place has also a rich history, in the 722 there was the battle of Covadonga, which marked the beggining of Spanish Reconquista.

If you want to see Lagos de Covadonga, you have to take a taxi from one of many parkings, because it is prohibited to drive your own car there (you can also walk or bike, but the walk from Covadonga to lakes is twelve kilometers long). The ride is about twenty minutes long and you are right next to the lake - Lago Ercina. Lago Ercina is one of the two famous lakes, in fact there are three, but one of them sometimes dissapears to the ground and it comes back only if it rains a lot, so only lucky people are able to see all three lakes. From there you can walk through the beautiful nature of Picos de Europa, you can go see Lago Enol or you can simply walk around. There are many hiking trails, but you have to be careful, because the weather changes very quickly. You will probably meet a lot of cows and sheeps, they walk around wherever they want and you will also find many fotogenic spots.

It is a very beautiful place and its worth a visit.

¡Hasta mañana!
