After a short flight from Madrid to Oviedo which took around 45 minutes, our families welcomed us at the airport and took us to our new homes. After a half a day of travel by bus and plane and half a day of exploring the beauties of Madrid, sleep never felt so good.
The next day we already went to school and we got introduced to the school principal - a very nice guy. Afterwards we introduced ourselves to our main class, with whom we will spend the most time with. We had some of our first classes - some of them in english and some of them in spanish.
The schools in Spain have a completely different system in the daily schedule. They start the day at 8:30 and have three classes, each one lasts 55 minutes. Between them they have a 5 minutes break just to move to another class. But after those three classes they have, unlike us, a proper 30 minutes break, in which everybody can go out, some people play football and some are just talking and eating. But you can really properly rest in those 30 minutes. After this break there are another three classes with those same 5 minutes breaks and then we go home. That means everyday we end our school day at 14:30. After the final ring there is a huge mess because everybody gets out of the school by the same exit in the same direction (there is a massive parking lot across the school, so some students are picked up by their parents there and the others have to go to the bus station). They don't have a canteen in the school, only a cafeteria where you can buy bagels and water, so they eat a proper hot lunch at home. In Spain in general people usually eat lunch around 15:00-16:00 in the afternoon, which was quite hard to take in the beginning considering the fact that they also eat very little for breakfast, the first few days, the last classes were pretty tough. We are getting the hang of Spanish, believe it or not and at the same time discovering different cultures and learning new things.
We miss you all.
¡Hasta mañana!
